Shaping 9 Plenary Speakers: Martin Trunec

Martin Trunec is a Materials Science and Engineering Professor at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering and the Head of the Advanced Ceramic Materials Group at the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) at the Brno University of Technology, the Czech Republic. He obtained his Ph.D. in Material Science and Engineering in 1990 from the Brno University of Technology.

Prof. Trunec’s scientific interests cover all areas of advanced ceramic processing, including nanostructured ceramic materials and composites. His current scientific activities focus on the colloidal processing of nanosized ceramic particles and the evaluation of their mechanical, optical, and biological properties. His recent research activities resulted in the development of several concepts in advanced ceramics and nanoceramics, such as fine-grained zirconia ceramics with high fracture toughness; improved transparency of alumina ceramics by nanoparticle doping; calcium phosphate scaffolds for bone regeneration with controlled biodegradation; safe drying of large nanoparticle bodies prepared by gelcasting method; thin, flexible zirconia sheets, etc.

He is the author or co-author of 57 publications in SCI journals and one book chapter. His h-index is 21, with >1400 citations. He is a member of the European Ceramic Society, American Ceramic Society, and Czech Ceramic Society. He is a member of the Scientific Board of the Central European Institute of Technology.
